The following quote was in my last day of homework for the Beth Moore study on Esther. Beth said that her father saw this in a concentration camp:

“I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining.
I believe in love, even when I do not feel it.
I believe in God, even when He is silent.” (Author unknown)

These words carry increased significance in the context of a Nazi concentration camp as well as in the context of the book of Esther, in which the name of God is absent and His presence unseen. Upon reading this at a glance, I was tempted to gloss over it and allow myself to think it a bit trite. However, when I consider that these were the words and beliefs that a Jew in a concentration camp clung to in the midst of unimaginable horrors, I can’t dismiss the power of their truth. During times in which God is seemingly silent and absent in the midst of difficult circumstances, may we have this same faith in His loving sovereignty and providence.
