For our work in the world to be grounded, sustainable, & rooted in love, we must continually attend to our inner work. Inner work includes healing from white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism, homophobia, etc (systems of oppression harm oppressed & oppressors in different ways).
Examples of inner work:
- Naming & honoring our grief
- Developing self-compassion that makes room for compassion for others
- Identifying habitual patterns of behavior that have served to protect us
- Identifying & tending to our feelings & wounds
- Looking beneath surface level desires to discover core desires
- Building shame resilience
- Distinguishing love from enmeshment
- Naming & owning our needs w/o judging them
- Exploring healthy ways to get our needs met
- Developing a habit of curiosity about own thoughts, feelings, body wisdom, & triggers
- Repairing broken trust with our bodies, minds, hearts, & traumatized parts
- Noticing/honoring our window of tolerance & getting support to slowly, gently expand it
- Slowly, gently increasing our capacity to be with what is
- Learning how to care for ourselves when we become dysregulated
- Learning to distinguish what is mine (to feel, to do, to believe) & what isn’t
•Getting in touch with our inner knowing - Reparenting younger/wounded parts of ourselves
- Learning to access felt safety that lets us heal, imagine, take risks, play& create
