how to sustain work rooted in love

For our work in the world to be grounded, sustainable, & rooted in love, we must continually attend to our inner work. Inner work includes healing from white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism, homophobia, etc (systems of oppression harm oppressed & oppressors in different ways).

Examples of inner work:

  • Naming & honoring our grief
  • Developing self-compassion that makes room for compassion for others
  • Identifying habitual patterns of behavior that have served to protect us
  • Identifying & tending to our feelings & wounds
  • Looking beneath surface level desires to discover core desires
  • Building shame resilience
  • Distinguishing love from enmeshment
  • Naming & owning our needs w/o judging them
  • Exploring healthy ways to get our needs met
  • Developing a habit of curiosity about own thoughts, feelings, body wisdom, & triggers
  • Repairing broken trust with our bodies, minds, hearts, & traumatized parts
  • Noticing/honoring our window of tolerance & getting support to slowly, gently expand it
  • Slowly, gently increasing our capacity to be with what is
  • Learning how to care for ourselves when we become dysregulated
  • Learning to distinguish what is mine (to feel, to do, to believe) & what isn’t
•Getting in touch with our inner knowing
  • Reparenting younger/wounded parts of ourselves
  • Learning to access felt safety that lets us heal, imagine, take risks, play& create
