soul song
by Lindsay L. O’Connor
I’ve been slowing down, saying, “No,”
striving less, nothing to show.
Takes such energy just to grow,
and I’m spent.
Not trying to grow, produce, or figure out,
keep breathing, try a new route.
If you’re wondering what it’s all about,
I don’t know.
I’m just trying to feel my own soul again,
to remember that I’m whole again.
Life’s taken its heavy toll again
with this most recent scare.
Just trying to feel that I’m whole again.
Need to shed these heavy roles again.
Gotta feel my own soul again
and remember that she’s there.
Keep slowing down, saying, “No,”
finding rest, even though
life pushes faster than you want to go—
just breathe in.
Stop trying to grow, produce, or figure out,
let it go and try this new route.
I’m wondering what it’s all about,
and I don’t know.
I’m just trying to feel my own soul again,
to remember that I’m whole again.
Gotta feel my own soul again
and remember that she’s there.
